At the heart of the kit are 35 round biodegradable paper pots, each measuring approximately 6 × 6 × 5.6cm.

Rather than removing a young plant completely from a conventional plastic pot when it's ready to move on, these breathable paper pots are designed to allow roots to grow through their walls as the fibres naturally degrade in the soil.

How to Use

Choose the seeds, herbs or cuttings you want to grow and check their individual sowing requirements before starting.

Arrange the biodegradable pots or paper seed trays inside the black base tray.

Fill the pots or seed trays with a suitable seed-sowing compost, leaving enough room for watering.

Sow the seeds at the depth and spacing recommended on the seed packet.

For very small seeds, follow the supplier's instructions carefully, as some varieties should only be lightly covered or surface sown.

Gently water the compost so it's evenly moist without becoming waterlogged.

Use the supplied T-shaped and paper labels to identify different plant varieties and record sowing dates where useful.

Position the clear lid over the tray where appropriate to help retain warmth and moisture during germination.

Place the kit in a location providing the temperature and light conditions recommended for the seeds you're growing.

Check the compost regularly and water carefully when required.

Provide additional ventilation and eventually remove the lid as seedlings establish, according to the requirements of the plants being grown.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, use the supplied widger to help carefully lift or separate young plants where necessary.

When plants growing in the biodegradable round pots are ready to move to their final position, the paper pot can be planted into suitable soil or compost, where the fibres will gradually degrade.
